Featured in the PBS documentary “Jewish Americans,” author of two books and numerous articles in books and journals, she serves as a Fellow of the Corporation of Brown University, on the boards of Encore.org, and the Jewish Women's Archive. Shifra has been doing community engagement, leadership development, and program design and implementation throughout her career. She began her career working in the Jewish community, serving Jewish college students around the country through the Bayit Project and then designing and implementing programs for Jewish youth in Los Angeles. She then spent many years serving youth in Los Angeles-area public schools with a broad range of youth development, college access, civic engagement, and creative self-expression programs. She is pleased to have returned to working in the Jewish community and is inspired by the older adults of the village movement as she navigates her own aging.
After working with ChaiVillageLA last year, she is excited to serve as the Managing Consultant of the Synagogue Village Network. In addition to this role, she is an adjunct professor at Cal State LA in the Department of Public Health, teaching undergraduates and graduate students in the Master of Public Health program. She has a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Change and a Master's in Educational Psychology.
